2 cups dark chocolate chips or chunks: The rich, dark foundation of our mix.

The Crimson Bite (Red Elements):

Instructions
Step 1: Combine the Dry Ingredients
In your largest mixing bowl (your “cauldron”), combine all the trail mix ingredients except for the red candy melts and the optional coconut oil. This includes the dark chocolate chips, black candy-coated sunflower seeds, chocolate cereal, dried cranberries/cherries, red candy-coated chocolates, Red Hots, mini pretzels, yogurt-covered pretzel pieces, mini marshmallows, and almonds.
Step 2: Gently Mix the Horde
Using a large spatula or wooden spoon, gently toss all the ingredients together. The goal is to distribute everything evenly without completely crushing the cereal or pretzels. Continue mixing until the colors and textures are well-dispersated throughout the bowl.
Step 3: Prepare for the “Blood” Drizzle
Line one or two large baking sheets with parchment paper or wax paper. Spread the trail mix out in a single, even layer on the prepared baking sheets. This creates a large surface area for the drizzle to hit and ensures it sets properly without creating massive clumps.
Step 4: Melt the “Blood”
Place the red candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl. If using, add the teaspoon of coconut oil, which will help the melts become smoother and easier to drizzle. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring well after each interval. Be careful not to overheat the candy, as it can seize up and become clumpy. Stop heating as soon as it is smooth and pourable when stirred.
Step 5: Create the Vampire’s Bite
Once the red candy is melted and smooth, it’s time for the fun part. Using a fork, a spoon, or a squeeze bottle, drizzle the melted red candy all over the trail mix spread on the baking sheets. Create random patterns, splatters, and lines to mimic a bloody effect. Don’t be too neat—the messier, the spookier!
Step 6: Let the Magic Set
Leave the baking sheets on the counter at room temperature for about 30-45 minutes, or until the red candy drizzle has completely hardened. To speed up the process, you can place the baking sheets in the refrigerator for 10-15 minutes.
Step 7: Break Up and Serve
Once the drizzle is firm to the touch, gently break the trail mix apart into bite-sized clumps and pieces. Transfer it to a large serving bowl, apothecary jars, or individual treat bags. Your Vampire Bite Trail Mix is now ready to be devoured!
