Chicken Crescent Rolls recipe

  • Author: Sophia

Ingredients

Scale

  • Refrigerated Crescent Roll Dough: 1 can (8 ounces) refrigerated crescent roll dough (such as Pillsbury™)
  • Cooked Chicken: 1 ½ cups cooked chicken, shredded or finely diced (rotisserie chicken works wonderfully!)
  • Cream Cheese: 4 ounces (half a standard block) cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • Shredded Cheese: ½ cup shredded cheese (cheddar, Monterey Jack, Colby Jack, or a blend are all great choices)
  • Milk or Chicken Broth: 1-2 tablespoons milk or chicken broth (to adjust filling consistency, if needed)
  • Seasonings:

    • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
    • ¼ teaspoon onion powder
    • ⅛ teaspoon black pepper
    • Salt to taste (be mindful if your chicken or broth is already salted)

  • Optional Add-ins (for extra flavor and texture):

    • 12 tablespoons finely chopped celery or green onion
    • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley or chives

  • Optional Topping:

    • 1 tablespoon melted butter (for brushing)
    • A sprinkle of dried parsley or paprika for color

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a baking sheet or line it with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
  2. Prepare the Chicken Filling:

    • In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, shredded chicken, shredded cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and salt.
    • Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well combined and the mixture is creamy. If the filling seems too thick or stiff, add 1 tablespoon of milk or chicken broth at a time until it reaches a nice, spreadable consistency (but not too wet).
    • If using, stir in any optional add-ins like chopped celery, green onion, or fresh herbs at this stage. Taste and adjust seasonings if necessary.

  3. Assemble the Crescent Rolls:

    • Open the can of crescent roll dough and unroll it carefully onto a clean, lightly floured surface. Separate the dough into the 8 pre-cut triangles.
    • Spoon a portion of the chicken filling (about 2-3 tablespoons, depending on the size of your triangles) onto the wide end of each crescent dough triangle. Spread it out slightly, leaving a small border. Avoid overfilling, as this can cause the filling to ooze out during baking.
    • Starting at the wide end, gently roll up each triangle towards the pointed tip. You can curve the ends slightly to create the classic crescent shape if desired, or keep them straight.

  4. Arrange and Bake:

    • Place the assembled chicken crescent rolls onto the prepared baking sheet, ensuring there’s a little space between each one for even baking.
    • Optional: For an extra golden and flavorful crust, lightly brush the tops of the crescent rolls with melted butter. You can also sprinkle them with a little dried parsley or paprika for color.
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 12-17 minutes, or until the crescent rolls are beautifully golden brown and the filling is heated through and bubbly at the edges. Cooking time may vary slightly depending on your oven.

  5. Cool and Serve:

    • Carefully remove the baking sheet from the oven. Let the chicken crescent rolls cool for a few minutes before serving, as the filling will be very hot.
    • Serve warm and enjoy the flaky, creamy goodness!
