Ingredients
Scale
- 2 medium apples of your choice
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 cup corn syrup
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon (optional)
- Sprinkles or chopped nuts for topping (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare Apples: Begin by washing your apples thoroughly. Slice them into thin wedges and remove any seeds. This will ensure that each slice is ready to be coated in caramel.
- Make Caramel: In a medium-sized saucepan, combine the granulated sugar, water, and corn syrup. Place the saucepan over medium heat and stir the mixture until the sugar has completely dissolved.
- Cook Mixture: Allow the mixture to boil without stirring. Keep an eye on the color; it should turn golden after about 5-7 minutes. Once it reaches the desired color, remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract and cinnamon if you choose to use it.
- Dip Slices: Quickly dip each apple slice into the warm caramel. Use a fork or skewer to make handling easier and to ensure each slice is evenly coated.
- Cool & Decorate: Place the dipped apple slices on a sheet of parchment paper. While the caramel is still warm, add sprinkles or chopped nuts to each slice for an extra burst of flavor and texture.
- Serve: Allow the slices to cool completely before serving. This will ensure the caramel sets properly and provides a satisfying crunch.
